New food truck Roll Play creates unique flavors with classic egg rolls

Roll Play is a local food truck that prides itself on mixing up tradition and experimentation with egg rolls that celebrate all different regions and cuisines rolled up in a thin, crispy wrapper.

Dana Jones wouldn’t describe herself as a cook, actually, she didn’t learn to cook until several years ago when her Filipino friend taught her the art of making egg rolls. Now, Jones has a food truck dedicated to her newfound craft and love for creating unique flavors.

It began in 2015 when she made 200 egg rolls for her own wedding appetizers and they were such a hit that she began making them at home and selling them frozen to the public through Facebook and word of mouth.

Roll Play is a local food truck putting a creative spin on a classic Asian dish.

“It’s amazing how word of mouth gets out and every time I open, they buy me out and I have to take some days to recover.”

Jones estimates that she makes about 5,000 egg rolls a week and they sell out every time.

Her flavors change weekly, but fan-favorites have a heavy rotation on her menu like the chicken, bacon, ranch and pecan pie flavors.

Not to mention she plans for the seasons by having specialty flavors like boudin or crawfish Étoufée for Mardi Gras.

If egg rolls aren’t your thing, don’t worry because Roll Play offers other options that rotate weekly like fried chicken, seafood fries, loaded chicken tortilla soup and fried mac and cheese.

As for what’s next, Jones doesn’t want to have a brick-and-mortar restaurant. Instead, her focus is reaching a larger audience outside of Shreveport and even Louisiana.

She hopes with her website going live in a few months that she will be able to ship globally and would love to have her frozen egg rolls in stores as well.
